These videos contain the two hardest measures from the Boismortier. They repeat and repeat, speeding up very slowly. The artist can identify and correct physical problems as they appear. For fluteler, this meant laying the right hand down on a table and stretching the ring finger backwards very gently until it could lift itself easily off the table. After the tendons were stretched, the fingers became nimbler.

1st of 3 -- Bois Gavotte - The Hard Part - 60-118 beats per minute.
2nd of 3 -- Bois Gavotte - The Hard Part - 100-200 bpm.
3rd of 3 -- Bois Gavotte - The Hard Part - 180-300 bpm.

2) The Accelerating Metronomes. These metronomes tick for eight beats at one tempo, then eight beats at a tempo slightly faster, etc. They are "the hard part" audios with the metronome track playing instead of the flute.

Make up a short exercise and watch yourself play it faster and faster and faster.

Then design a better exercise. You know you can. Play that one faster and faster. Again, as speed increases, problems will appear. If they can't be overcome immediately, just move the music cursor back to where you were having a good time and play forward from there.

Even if your name is already Espresso Prestissimo, you can edge your way into faster fluting.

1st Accelerating Metronome - - 30-60 bpm -- slowest.
2nd Accelerating Metronome - - 50-100 bpm - medium.
3rd Accelerating Metronome - - 90-150 bpm - fastest.

These metronomes will slow down toward the end of their cycle to help the musician find the way back to solid ground if needed.

One can also use them for physical exercise. Move slowly at first, and then more quickly. Stop before you break anything!

le fluteler
